Make Football Fun, This Liverpool Legend Asks for Revised Offside Rules

Bikin Sepak Bola Tidak Asyik, Legenda Liverpool ini Minta Aturan Offside Direvisi

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness called on interested parties to revise the offside rules currently in use because they make soccer less fun and frustrate everyone.
The call came out of him after he watched the duel between Liverpool vs Wolverhampton on Matchday 20 Premier League at Anfield on Sunday (12/29/2019). The match was won by the Reds with a thin score of 1-0.

Liverpool's only puppet goal was scored by Sadio Mane. But the goal had to be rechecked with Video Assistant Referee (VAR) because there was a suspicion of Adam Lallana doing handball before giving an assist to Mane.

Mane's goal was finally passed. But Wolverhampton fans had a fuss about the moment before the goal, Virgil Van Dijk made a handball before giving a long pass to Lallana.

Then there was also another controversy in the match because the referee annulled Pedro Neto's goal against Liverpool. Before breaking down Alisson Becker's goal, the player who gave the bait Jonny was considered to be in an offside position.

Wolverhampton camp clearly disappointed with the disallowed goal. But Souness was also disappointed. He also hopes that the rules on offside and VAR will soon be revised because at this time the rules actually make soccer not fun and make everyone frustrated.

"I really don't understand," said Souness at Sky Sports studio.

"We are in the entertainment business. What we do precisely is to make people unable to enjoy goals. All we have to do is say that if there are parts of an attacker who are in an onside position, they cannot be given offside," he exclaimed.

"We can't go on like this. Too much frustration is happening," he complained.

After the match, Wolverhampton captain Conor Coady said he was disappointed with the offside rules. He recognized the rules and VAR actually had a negative effect on football.

"This is ridiculous. That doesn't work.

"I can't understand it. Decisions [the referee] killed us," he said.

"VAR influenced the game. Nobody liked it," the former Liverpool player claims.

Liverpool's victory makes the Reds now collect 55 points from 18 matches in the Premier League. Meanwhile Wolverhampton are now ranked seventh with 30 points from 20 matches.
