5 Big Issues That New Arsenal Manager Must Resolve

Arsenal decided to part with Unai Emery on Friday (11/29/2019). The Spanish manager only lasted 18 months at the Emirates Stadium.

Emery must pay the price for Arsenal's poor performance this season. However, his dismissal did not immediately fix the problem at the club.

The Gunners threatened to finish outside the top four for four consecutive seasons. They are currently seven points behind fourth place.

Emery himself had to solve many problems when he replaced Arsene Wenger in May 2018. However, he apparently did not have enough time there.

Arsenal have appointed Freddie Ljungberg as interim manager. However, whoever replaces Emery permanently must be a savior to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang et al.

Here are five main problems that must be resolved by the new Arsenal manager.

Fragile Defense

Arsenal once had one of the most formidable backs in English football. But that can't be seen now.

Problems in the Arsenal defense are very chronic. It hasn't even seemed to improve lately.

Arsenal under Emery lacked form, discipline, awareness and passion. Players often look lost, while opponents are able to find and exploit space easily.

Weaknesses in the Arsenal defense are exposed not only when without the ball. They often fail to play from behind because of a loose touch or wild pass.

With only 10 clean sheets in 51 league games under Emery, the next manager must set up a system to reverse this alarming trend.

Choose Captain

Emery has nine different captains. Nine is arguably too much and it illustrates the lack of cohesiveness during his reign.

The leadership problem was seen in Emery's last match at Arsenal against Eintracht Frankfurt. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seemed to forget that he was the captain and had to be summoned by the referee to flip a coin before the match began.

Aubameyang just took over the armband from Granit Xhaka after a fight with the fans. However, the Gabonese player still seems to have to learn how to lead his team.

The new manager must be able to choose the right captain for Arsenal and lead the team well in any situation.

Make Aubameyang and Other Top Players Happy

Despite having difficulties, Arsenal have many quality players and envy their competitors.

One of them is Aubameyang. The Gabonese player has been a goal barn for the Gunners since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in January last year.

However, a bad situation at Arsenal could make the club lose the player. That would certainly be good news for rivals Arsenal.

According to reports, Aubameyang has postponed signing a new contract with Arsenal. The new manager must be able to convince Aubameyang to stay happy at the club

Keeping the Gabonese in the club can encourage other players like Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil to remain loyal at the club.

Pepe's performance

I wonder what is happening with Nicolas Pepe. What is clear is that the problem from the Ivory Coast player must be resolved immediately.

Pepe became Arsenal's most expensive player when he joined the club at the start of the season. However, the player still hasn't shone with the Gunners.

The 24-year-old has only scored one goal in the league. Pepe's incision was certainly not commensurate with the costs already spent by the Gunners.

If its potential can be released, Arsenal will have a new goal scorer. The new manager must be able to bring out Pepe's best abilities.
Relationship with Supporters

Arsenal supporters have felt very frustrated with his favorite club. Even that had appeared before the arrival of Unai Emery.

Under Wenger lately, Arsenal appear to lack ambition and lose direction. Until now there has been no positive change.

Granit Xhaka was recently involved in a feud with supporters who made him lose the captain's armband and be frozen from the squad. That marked the lowest point in the relationship between supporters and the team.

In the end, the club will have difficulty achieving good results if there is no full support from supporters. The new manager must be able to make supporters happy again
