Chelsea humiliated Southampton 0-2 at Stamford Bridge


Chelsea were defeated by Southampton with a score of 0-2 in the Premier League Boxing Day match. Despite appearing dominant, the Blues are frustrated by their guests.

 Chelsea immediately mastered the match since after football began at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (12/26/2019) evening hrs. But Southampton appeared disciplined and meeting to prevent the host from spreading serious threats.

Southampton successfully dealt a blow to Chelsea from a quick attack in the 31st minute. In the second half, the visitors locked the match with Nathan Redmond's goal in the 73rd minute.
The second goal was increasingly frustrating Chelsea. In total there were 10 trials released by Chelsea, but only three were on target.

While Southampton, who appeared efficient by relying on counter-attacks, had five shots, three of which aimed at goal.

With this result, Chelsea stuck in fourth position with 32 points from 19 matches. While Southampton climbed to number 14 armed with 21 points.

The course of the match
Chelsea immediately tried to launch attacks from the wing after the kick-off. Callum Hudson-Odoi cross from the right can still be driven by Jan Bednarek.

In the 8th minute, the collaboration between Hudson-Odoi and Willian ended with a cross that was directed to Jorginho. But the ball is cut.

Hudson-Odoi got the ball on the edge of the penalty box in the 21st minute and tried to open fire. He just hit Jack Stephens.

Not long after, Hudson-Odoi's cross was struck by Fikayo Tomori's header. The ball leads to goalkeeper Alex McCarthy so it is easily anticipated.

Chelsea is more dominant, but Southampton get the first goal. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg received the ball on the right and passed it on to Michael Obafemi.

Tomori had tried to cut the bait but failed. Obafemi who moves to the middle and then release a hard kick to the top left corner of the goal.

A corner from Willian tries to be deflected by Cesar Azpilicueta who is under the guidance of Stuart Armstrong. The ball crosses the front of the goal and is driven away by McCarthy and there are no other Chelsea players to grab.

Chelsea continued to pressure the visitors, but it was quite difficult to create a real threat. Until the first half was over, Chelsea were unable to score a goal back.

Chelsea immediately kicked off after the restart. Tammy Abraham gets the ball on the right side and releases the hard kick that only ends at the side of the goal.

Southampton change threatening in the 49th minute. Nathan Redmond is free on the left and sends in a cross. The ball was deflected slightly by Tomori so Che Adams failed to grab it.

Hudson-Odoi stabbed in from the left in the 56th minute and released a flick that hit Stephens. He asked for a penalty, but Video Assistant Referee made sure there were no violations.

Chelsea almost conceded for the second time in the 65th minute. From a fast attack via the middle, Armstrong thrust the ball at Redmond who only faced Kepa Arrizabalaga. It's just that his shot can be driven away by the Chelsea goalkeeper and throwing the ball thrown by Azpilicueta.
