Ernesto Valverde: De Jong's Red Card Really Hurt Us

Barcelona coach Ernsesto Valverde gave his comments regarding the red card given to Azulgrana player Frenkie de Jong in the match against Espanyol.

Valverde said he was disappointed with the results of the match.

Whereas before, he was very confident his team could end the match with the victory.

But De Jong's red card makes Barca lose control of the game.

We were injured because he was kicked out by De Jong. "We almost made it 1-3, but it turned out like that," Valverde was quoted as saying by BolaSport.com from the US.

"We control the way the game looks comfortable after we lead. We really want to add goals."

"However, we lost control after the De Jong red card incident," the 55-year-old coach added.

Valverde's disappointment did not stop there.

This draw also makes their position at the top of the standings threatened.

Now their number of points, 40 points, is the same as the collection of Real Madrid who managed to win just before Barca played.

That way, the competition to win the Spanish League this season will be very tight.

But Valverde is ready and calm to deal with this.

"That (the title race) is normal for a league as tight as this," Valverde added.

"But we must continue to fight and try to win the league," he said in a statement.
