Yamaha boss admits their engine is still losing to Ducati, but ...
 Yamaha Energy Monster racer Valentino Rossi underwent a 2020 MotoGP pre-season test at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Valencia.
Yamaha MotoGP project leader, Takahiro Sumi, admitted that his team still lost to Ducati in terms of engine.

Monster Energy Yamaha's journey through the 2019 season is like a roller-coaster ride with two riders, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales.

Yamaha was only able to win two victories throughout 2019 through Maverick Vinales who performed fiercely in Assen (The Netherlands) and Sepang (Malaysia).

While his teammate, Valentino Rossi, still unable to get out of the problems he faced with the YZR-M1 motorcycle.

Instead of competing with Repsol Honda in the race for the title, Yamaha was still so saggy in chasing Ducati's speed.

In fact, Takahiro Sumi as the Yamaha MotoGP project leader himself admitted that his team still lost to Ducati especially in terms of engine.

In the last season the Ducati Desmosedici GP19 motorbike became one of the fiercer ride when devouring a straight track.

Complaints also came from the two Yamaha mainstay racers who urged his team to add top speed which was considered still inadequate.

We don't have a machine that can compete with Ducati, "said Takahiro Sumi, quoted from Motorsport-Total.

According to Sumi, his team had already discovered all the YZR-M1 deficiencies even before the 2019 season began.

"That is why in the winter (2018), we try to look back and find the location of our mistakes to get a safer foundation."

Development is still ongoing. Yamaha finally chose a different path from Ducati by developing aspects of cornering speed.

"We are pursuing our own philosophy and choosing to focus with our speed when it is around the corner," Sumi concluded.

Yamaha will launch their new team and motorcycle for MotoGP 2020 on 6 February in Malaysia.

While the new MotoGP 2020 race will take place on March 8 at the Losail Circuit, Qatar.
