The defeat of Man City became Man United's worst performance this season

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could not hide his disappointment after losing to Manchester City in the English League Cup.

Manchester City travel to Old Trafford with ambition to win the English League Cup in three consecutive seasons.

Pep Guardiola's team appeared dominant before finally winning with a score of 3-1 over the host in a match that took place on Tuesday (7/1/2020).

Two goals from Manchester City players, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez and an own goal from Andreas Pereira were enough to embarrass the Red Devils in front of their own supporters.

After the match, the Red Devils coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that he was upset to see his foster children playing.

According to Solskjaer, Man United's appearance in the match, especially in the first round, was the worst in this 2019-2020 season.

"From their first goal (Man City) until the first half ended was the worst performance we played.

"Whereas before, we could have done the opposite, maybe scored."

Man United is arguably performing poorly throughout the first 45 minutes.

Marcus Rashford et al. failed to make dangerous chances in the first half.

The note was further aggravated by conceding three times in the first half.

Bernardo Silva became the first player to successfully hit the ball against David De Gea in the 17th minute.

Interval of 16 minutes later it was Riyad Mahrez's turn to score.

Until the 38th minute, Man United's nightmare in the first half intensified, because Andreas Pereira made an own goal.

Solskjaer spoke to his players at halftime that they were in danger if they didn't change.

"Pride is the one word we talked about during the break," Solskjaer said.

"Make sure you win in the second round and you can compensate."

"But of course it was a difficult task we did in the second half."

"But the second-half performance at least gave us something to look forward to (in the second leg)," he concluded.

The English League Cup semi-final second leg match between Manchester City and Manchester United will take place at the Etihad Stadium.

The match will be deciding who will advance to the final round to face Leicester or Aston Villa.
