Fighters from the Republic of Ireland will compete against Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (US), in the Welter class.
The UFC 246 match will be McGregor's inaugural match after undergoing sanctions given by the Nevada Athletics Commission (NSAC).
BOLASPORT.COM - UFC President Dana White believes Conor McGregor's desire to fight Jorge Masvidal is a bad idea.
Conor McGregor will return to compete in the octagon arena at UFC 246 which will take place on January 19, 2020.
The fighter nicknamed The Notorius was sentenced to six-month ban from competing.
The sentence was given due to the riots that occurred after McGregor lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 229, October 2018.
If you win against Cerrone, McGregor's chance to reunite with Khabib Nurmagomedov is even greater.
Although McGregor's big plans to return to fight the lightweight UFC champion will not be realized in the near future.
Although assessing Conor McGregor's desire to fight with Jorge Masvidal was a bad idea, Dana White denied that he considered McGregor unable to defeat Masvidal in the octagon arena.
"I am not saying that he will not be able to defeat Masvidal, on certain days every fighter can defeat his opponent," he explained.
Jorge Masvidal previously managed to grab the BMF belt after defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 244 November 2019.
In the match that took place at Madison Square Garden, New York, USA, Masvidal won after Nate Diaz was judged unable to continue the fight when entering the fourth round.
"Conor wants the belt (BMF) from Masvidal. I have held battles like that before, and like I said, (fight) is fun and extraordinary. We'll see what will happen later," White said, reported by BolaSport. com from Sportbible.
"(However), I think everyone knows what I think about it, I think it is a bad idea," White explained.
"Conor was angry when I said it was a bad idea, and he was like, 'You think I can't beat Masvidal?'," White said again.
