Gerrard Official Becomes Rangers Manager
Glasgow - Steven Gerrard starts a new chapter in his career as a manager. He was officially appointed as manager of Scottish club Rangers FC.
Gerrard has accepted Rangers' proposal and will be under contract for the next four years. The 37-year-old will replace interim goalkeeper Graeme Murty, who was sacked last Tuesday after losing 0-5 in a derby match against Celtic. The contract itself is only valid from 1 July.

"I feel very honored to be the new Rangers manager, and I really appreciate this club, its tradition and history," Gerrard said on the club's official website.

"I look forward to this new adventure with Rangers, because we want to continue to know the success of this club," he continued.

Gerrard's appointment also confirmed speculation that had been circulating in the past few days. Rangers' decision was rather brave, with Gerrard's training experience limited to Liverpool's U-18 team.

In addition, players who retired in 2016 have a difficult task of bringing Rangers back to the league with Celtic. This season, Rangers have changed coaches once, from Pedro Caixinha to Murty.

Rangers will be managed by Jimmy Nicholl until the end of the season. The Bhoys are now third in the standings with 65 points and require a minimum of two wins in the remaining three matches to rank in the top three to qualify for the European League next season.

"From the start, the discussion was very positive and we believe Steven is the right person to advance Rangers," said club president Dave King.

"He really captivated us during the negotiations and we think he has the right knowledge and temperament to lead this club to the success we want."
