The Dutchman played at Camp Nou, at Barcelona headquarters, in 1973. When he dribbled, the Catalan public always shouted his name, John Cruyff, on Tuesday (07/08/2019).
A Time Magazine journalist once wrote that Cruyff's presence in Barcelona had sparked a new Catalan spirit, beyond the illusion of politicians about Catalonia's independence. Jimmy Burn said Barcelona and Cruyff would never lose this team.
Cruyff is indeed a legend for Barcelona and the Catalan community. In honor of the former Ajax player who died on March 24, 2016, Blaugrana has a special way to honor his services.
Cité Football5star.com on Barca's official page, the bronze statue of Cruyff was inaugurated by officials such as President Josep Maria Bartomeu, Jordi Cardoner, Jordi Moix and Enrique Tombas.
At the opening ceremony, the club management also invited Cruyff, Susila and Jordi's wife and children. Former players Carles Puyol, Sergi Barjuan and Albert Ferrer were also present.
The bronze statue of Cruyff was created by famous sculptor Corry Ammerlaan van Niekerk. The 3.5-meter bronze stall was designed by van Niekerk and inspired by one of the iconic photos of player number 14.
The bronze statue of Cruyff will later be placed at the entrance of the Nou camp, near the Barcelona legend, Ladislau Kubala.
The Blaugrana not only inaugurated the statue, but also inaugurated the Johan Cruyff stadium, which will be the seat of the Barca B team and the Barca Putri team. At the inauguration ceremony of the Johan Cruyff stadium, Barca had planned to hold a match between the B Bacara team and the Ajax U-19 team.
The inauguration of the Johan Cruyff stadium to replace Mini Estadi, who was previously the seat of the Barca youth team. Later, the Mini Estadi will be demolished to allow access to new roads leading to downtown Catalan.
It is interesting to note that the design of the Johan Cruyff stadium was inspired by the Nou Camp stadium in the early 20th century. Later, this stadium will accommodate 5,000 spectators.
