Juventus announces Champions League squad, No Can and Mandzukic
Juventus released their squad for the 2019/2020 Champions League group stage (4/9). Of the 22 players registered there are no names Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic.
Juventus currently have a fairly fat squad. They have 27 players in the first team.
The situation presents a dilemma for the Old Lady in selecting players for the Champions League group stage. Because only 22 players are allowed to be registered by UEFA.
As a result Maurizio Sarri was forced to not enter Can and Mandzukic. The Italian coach also did not register Giorgio Chiellini, who had to be sidelined with a knee injury, and Mattia Perrin and Marko Pjaca.
Even so, the chances of these players performing in the Champions League with the Bianconeri have not been fully closed. They can still be registered in the Juventus squad for the knockout phase.
New Juventus recruits namely Matthijs de Ligt, Aaron Ramsey, Danilo, Adrien Rabiot, Merih Demiral, and Gianluigi Buffon are confirmed to be in this player list. Similarly, Blaise Matuidi and Paulo Dybala, who this season was rumored to be leaving the Allianz Stadium.
In this season's Champions League, Juventus are in Group D. They will compete with Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow for the ticket to the knockout phase.
