Owen: As an attacker, Rashford has no instinct to kill
Manchester - Michael Owen believes that Marcus Rashford has no killer instincts in the penalty area. This is due to the fact that Rashford's initial position was not an attacker.
Rashford's presence in the last seasons with Manchester United and the English national team has impressed Owen. The British legend thinks the 21-year-old has better soccer skills than him
But Owen believes Rashford has a weakness that makes it difficult to become a Red Devils score engine. He considers that Rashford has no killer instinct in front of goal.
During his career, Rashford has only scored an average of 12 goals per season since his debut in 2015. The best statistic is when you made 10 Premier League appearances last season.
"I don't think he rated what he wanted," Owen said of Rashford, quoted by the Telegraph.
"I judge the overall performance, related to contributions to goals, to the helpers, all of them, he is better than me," he continued.
"He has extraordinary contacts and skills that I have never had, but he does not have the killer instinct that I have."
"That surprised me, players like Robbie Fowler, Sergio Aguero or Harry Kane - they want to score goals, I don't think they have them."
Owen also added that the instinct to score a goal grew naturally and not the result of training. Rashford didn't have that because, when in the junior team, the products of the MU Academy didn't really want to be the spearhead.
"You can practice the problem of final resolution, but I don't think it can be done to improve the instincts of goals and how they can be formed," he added.
"I know that Rashford was never a central striker when he was a child, he always wanted to play away or as a number 10 player. I know his coach at MU Academy always encourages dribbling and scoring in penalty kicks.
"It's not just his desire, he always comes out of the penalty spot, has skills and everything. He always scores decent goals and he's really a very talented player.
"But when you talk about Aguero, he is a cold-blooded man who constantly thinks about his goals, I don't think (Rashford has)," the 39-year-old said.
