Courtois Cannot Use Number 1 Madrid Even though Navas has left
Navas decided to leave Madrid to move to Paris Saint-Germain. He joined the French giant with an agreement involving Alphonse Areola.
The French goalkeeper was loaned to El Real for one season as a Courtois coating. Quoted from Marca, this transfer gave rise to the scenario that Courtois would wear Navas's number one back and Areola would use number 13.
But these hopes must be dashed because of the rules imposed by LaLiga. The highest caste competition in the Spanish League prohibits players from changing their jersey numbers during the middle of the season.
Therefore Courtois will still wear the jersey number 13 this season. Madrid itself has announced that there are only two numbers in the first team that are currently empty namely 1 and 25.
Number 1 is most likely to be used by Areola. While 25 will be used by Vinicius Junior. Previously, this Brazilian player wore number 28.
Vinicius is allowed to wear number 28 and change numbers because he is still listed as a Madrid academy player. LaLiga rules say players from the academy can still play even if they are not registered with the first team.
