Smalling can be longer in Rome

Rome - Chris Smalling revealed that he could graze longer in Italy. This is possible if Smalling's loan from AS Roma is successful.

The England defender has been loaned out by Manchester United to Rome for the 2019/20 season. Smalling was released because he could not compete with newcomer Harry Maguire, who preferred to compete with Victor Lindelof at the heart of Manchester United's defense.

"This is an opportunity that interests me, and I can't wait to come," Smalling said at his opening press conference on Friday (06/09/2019).

"The transfer was very fast and now I focus on the next match, I try to adjust to the coach's training methods and I hope to have a good season."

"That could have the chance to play at a big club, and if it continues and the club is happy, I can certainly see a longer future in Italy," added the 29-year-old center-back.

The Italian league will return after the international break. Smalling debuted in the third edition, when Roma hosted Sassuolo at the Olimpico on September 15.
