Scott Satterfield Q&A After Louisville's loss to Notre Dame

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A transcript of Louisville coach Scott Satterfield's press conference after his team's 35-17 loss to Notre Dame on Monday night.

Initial Statement:

"First of all, just give Notre Dame a lot of credit. They have a very good football team. We knew that. So I want to tip my hat to those boys. They are an attractive team and have several older boys. Many older adults on that team They have a lot of experience. So give them a lot of credit. As for our boys, I am extremely proud of the way our boys played. The fight, the energy they had was amazing to see. The only thing we got into this game that we didn't know was when we faced adversity, how these guys are going to react to it. And they did a great job. So those are things we can build on. That’s one of the best D lines in the country right there, and I thought our offensive line came out and did a great job driving those guys to the front in the running game ... 250 yards in a very good defense, I thought it was outstanding. they ran hard, our H-backs, our closed ends well locked in the perimeter, that is to win football right there. - 250 yards running a game - If we can do that, we'll be fine. We have to improve in the air game.

We were worried about both ends in the pass race. Those guys are good. They wreaked havoc on the field, so we were trying to get rid of the ball quickly. And they did a good job outside, covering up some of our boys. So we will improve with that. We will grow on that. Really proud of our defense, apart from the unit they had where they picked up, I think that the first three attempts at the third time, our defense at the third opportunity was excellent. We left the field on third opportunity, fourth opportunity. I really did a great job with that. So, I am proud of our defense. They ran to football. We did a good job by not giving up big plays. I think the biggest plays they had were really key disorders. The quarterback stirs, does a good job with that. But in general, I told our football team, we are not in moral victories. We are trying to win football matches. And we wanted to win badly tonight. And, despite all the odds and all this and that, we wanted to win badly. And, our children continue to fight like this, we will improve every week. And I am proud of them for that. The only thing we told them there in the end is that we do everything together as a family. Win, lose, whatever it is, all together, keeping tight. And that's what we're going to do. We have a short week this week, so we have to prepare quickly to return to the field. But when we just left the locker room, those guys were ready to leave right now. So, I'm excited for this week. "

Q: What is your evaluation of the Jawon Pass?

SATTERFIELD: "I think in the running game he did a very good job. That puts pressure on the defense when your son can run like that. And he had a lot of great races, a couple of touchdowns there. We have to take care of football, obviously, in one of them, he got hit from behind, we have to do a better job of ball safety, we are predominantly 99 percent of the time, catching shotguns, and we looked for one, an exchange on that. But I think in general, his career game was good, I think that in the air game, we obviously have to improve, we had some drops tonight, some wandering balls tonight, sums drops and some of the bad throws, now it's for that the percentage of completion was low, but our plan tonight was to try to take the ball to these confrontations one by one, it was difficult, those guys do a good job, cover work, we have to free ourselves. The receivers have to make plays. A couple of times, we had some boys open and we lost the pitches. r of that. We will see it in the movie. We will grow from that in the air game.

Q: Were you satisfied with your decision making for the most part?

SATTERFIELD: Decision making in general was pretty good. Again, you come back to, we are doing the right reading. I thought it was pretty good for the most part. I remember maybe three or four times where it was probably the wrong reading, but sometimes you can get away with it. But I think overall it was good. It was good in the running game. We make you make decisions in the running game on virtually every play. With our zone reading stuff. So he did a good job with that. We will dive into more of that when we see the movie again. The way he directed football will give us a chance as we move forward with this. We just have to do a better job. We have some guys abroad who are good players, Tutu (Atwell), (Dez) Fitz (patrick) and Seth (Dawkins), we have to get them the ball.

Q: Did you expect your offense to run the ball and move it against Notre Dame?

SATTERFIELD: I didn't know if you did it against Notre Dame, they're pretty good watching that movie. This is what we expected. We wanted to establish the career. We were in the game, until the end when they got two scores. Now we can remain within our offensive. We can keep running football. We can continue with your game action. Once you get three scores, now you have to open a little more. I thought they did a great job about it. Again, it's the first game, so you really don't know until you come here and start playing. We know, I know (Javian) Hawkins and (Hassan) Hall, both really capable runners. They run hard, and I think everyone saw it tonight. They opened and released. A couple of times, they just stumble and those are touchdowns. We are really encouraged by the way they ran soccer tonight and it will help us as we go.

Q: After Notre Dame left and scored immediately on his first trip, did he have a message for his defense to help him stabilize?

SATTERFIELD: No, I think many times in first or second unit. They do some things differently offensively and it takes their defense a second to make an adjustment. I think our coaches did a great job making adjustments to the margin. What he was proud of was the way he responded to the offense. It is a team game, so we are all trying to play each other. And they went down and scored. And our offensive returned to the field and scored. I thought it was a great answer. That gave us confidence. When you play a game like this, you play against a team like this that is a very good soccer team. You want to be able to respond. You want to have some positivity to happen to our boys. So, when we went and scored, that also inspires the defense to return and start playing better. I think we play well with each other. The big play in the first half was the rotation just before halftime. We looked for the ball and I guess it was three loose balls in a row. I've never seen that, three loose balls in a row, and they ended up scoring. That was unfortunate. I think our defense played very well in the second quarter.

Q: What did you think of your first gaming experience at Cardinal Stadium?

SATTERFIELD: "It was phenomenal. It was amazing. Starting with Card March, I've never seen anything like that. The support of the fans we've had, really since all the time we've been here. Our staff and our team and our players, we've felt the support, our players have felt it, that's really what matters, it's not about the coaches, it's about these kids, they felt the support of the fans and tonight was amazing, it was an amazing atmosphere, probably nothing Better than that there unless you're in the national championship game. It was amazing. We had everything we could do. We fed on that crowd tonight. It was amazing, throughout the game. We have to keep it going. We have to make the fans go out on Saturday. I know it's a five-day change, but our children deserve it. They deserve that these fans come back and watch them play. I promise you this, our children are going to fight them. We work hard to improve, so when we get to the soccer field, we will win these games. Everyone can celebrate, these fans and these players.

Q: You had five loose balls tonight. Was that a problem in practice?

SATTERFIELD: "Puma, with him, the handling of the ball has been excellent throughout the camp. I can't even remember that he had an honest ball. One of them was very easy. It's hard to understand that because that's all we do in practice, unfortunately, we will work on the safety of the ball, obviously, as we move forward, we talk about the margin of rotation, we have to win that, we didn't do it tonight, that’s probably the difference in the outcome of the game quite honestly, if you don't tremble right in the middle, and they write down those seven, then it’s a ball game, you’re working on the second half and the way you call the game on both sides is completely different. better work on that, and we will work on that and improve. "

Q: You entered with this brokers committee. Do you see Hawkins and Hall being the boys moving forward?

SATTERFIELD: "I think both boys (Javian Hawkins and Hassan Hall) were playing well tonight. They were cool. It was a tight game. If they are cool, it is who we will play. As we move forward, I feel good with the other boys. I feel good about that, we have four or five guys that I feel good with that they could go out and play in. Those guys felt good, they were in a rhythm, why change, look what they did, they did a great job. Hawkins averaged 6.4 yards per carry and Hall averaged 6.3, that is phenomenal, we will continue to do so with those guys, if necessary, we will play more runners, that really applies to any position, if they are ready to play, we will see how that progresses, but I really appreciate that the way they did it. I'm proud of our staff. I'm proud of everyone in this building and we'll improve. "
