Kompany Call Van Dijk the best Premier League defender

Eleven years of eating in the Premier League, Vincent Kompany has faced many defenders. According to him, the best is Virgil van Dijk.

Kompany has reason to call Van Dijk the best Premier League defender. The former Manchester City captain has noted the considerable impact that Van Dijk presented at Liverpool.

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018 for a fee which at the time defeated the defender's record. Together with Van Dijk, the Reds have a strong back line.

"I remember the players who were truly impressive when I played against them, the midfielder and I will return to Virgil van Dijk," Kompany, reported by ESPN FC, said.

"This is strange because it hasn't been as long as John Terry or Rio Ferdinand, but the signals he has shown in recent years show that if he seems to be at the highest level, he will go further."

"Being a defender means making the team stronger, Liverpool before Van Dijk and then a totally different organization, you don't see too many defenders having such an impact," he said.

Performing impressively at Liverpool, Van Dijk was recently awarded the title of European footballer in 2018/2019, beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Dutch defender has also been nominated for the 2019 FIFA best player.
