From Ligt: nothing is easy in Italy

Matthijs de Ligt felt a new competition after moving to Juventus. The Dutch defender recognizes that new experiences will not always go smoothly.

After playing well with Ajax last season, De Ligt has received a proposal from Juventus this summer. The Bianconeri spent 85.5 million euros on the 20-year-old defender.

Although bought expensive, De Ligt did not immediately become a starter in the first match of Juventus in the 2019/2020 Italian League. He made his debut only when Juventus hosted Napoli last weekend. De Ligt was fortunate enough to play after Giorgio Chiellini's injury.

De Ligt's debut with Juventus was considered less convincing. He had no trouble reading the movements of front-line players in Naples. De Ligt admitted that playing in Italy was different from the Netherlands.

"It seems negative, but in Italy, compared to the Netherlands, we think more individually," De Ligt told De Telegraaf, reported by Italian football.

"Every player has identified what he needs and how he can improve - a program created especially for you."

"I am in a new country and I know nothing is easy," he said.
