Callahan was traded to the Senator by Lightning for Condon
Ryan Callahan trades with the Ottawa Senator by choosing goalkeeper Mike Condon for the NHL 2020 goalkeeper by the Tampa Bay Lightning, as well as the sixth round option for the 2020 draft.
Callahan has 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) in 52 matches with Lightning last season, wasting time due to the deterioration of his back. The 34-year-old, who has only one season with a six-year contract with Tampa Bay on June 24, 2014, was placed on a long-term injury reserve on June 20.
"I think a year or two won't help him to be honest with you," Callahan told the Lightning website in June. "From what the doctors said and how I felt, it seems that I will not be able to return. If I am not behind, I will play next year ... wherever I am. I want to be with Lightning."
Chosen by the New York Rangers in the fourth round (No. 127), the 2004 NHL Draft, Callahan had 386 points (186 goals, 200 assists) in 757 matches in 13 seasons with Rangers and Lightning, and 39 points (20 goals), 19 assists ) in 121 Stanley Cup playoff matches.
"I want to thank Ryan Callahan, who has worked with us for this job, but also for all the extraordinary years he has spent on our team, the leadership he brought to our team, the matches he did. ice, team, "said Julien BriseBois, General Manager of Tampa Bay. "And for his contribution to society, his family has raised a lot of money for child cancer and for families struggling with child cancer, and I appreciate everything he has done for our organization."
Condon is 0-2-0 with an average of 6.40 goals and an average of 0.800 saves in Ottawa's first two matches in 2018-19. The 29-year-old missed most of last season due to a hip injury.
He was the second goalkeeper in the Tampa Bay season; Lightning signed a two-year contract with Curtis McElhinney for $ 2.6 million (annual average value of $ 1.3 million) on July 1. Tampa Bay also signed the Vezina Trophy winner in 2018-19 with Andrei Vasilevskiy with an eight-year contract extension, or $ 76 million (annual average value) of $ 9.5 million) on Monday.
"I know it looks like our target market is cornered," said BriseBois. "The reality is that it is something we have to face, but I prefer managing too many goals that are not enough." The plan is still Andrei Vasilevskiy is our number one scorer Curtis McElhinney will be our Tampa Reserve We are still trying to find a new organization for Louis Domingue Scott Wedgewood, we have signed a contract to call our target and start the season in Syracuse [and] still in this chair "Mike Condon will also be in Syracuse. Mike has a very promising career before being somewhat displaced by injury. This is a good prospect ... This will be a positive presence in Syracuse."
Condon 45-58-17, signed as a free agent for the Montreal Canadiens on May 8, 2013, averaging 2.79 GAA, a percentage saved 0.905 and six shutouts in 129 matches (117 starts) in four seasons in the NHL with Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Senators.
