The reason Smalling Wants To Leave United And Join Rome

Chris Smalling, who was very excited about his new team, Roma, admitted that his talks with Roma coach, Paulo Fonseca, who then encouraged him to join Roma.
Smalling officially joined Roma on Friday , with the status of a loan player for a season from Manchester United.

In an interview with Roma TV, Smalling revealed some interesting details in his transfer to AS Roma.

"If I leave Manchester United, I have to go to a big club that has ambitions and big targets," Smalling said.

The 29-year-old defender from London later revealed that Fonseca had an important role in his transfer to Rome. Smalling wanted to talk to the Portuguese coach before accepting Roma's offer, and in fact Smalling was quite happy with Fonseca's ideas.

"I talked to the coach about how he saw the match and I felt that it was very suitable for me. Talking with him was the last thing I needed (to accept Roma's offer) and in 30 seconds I wanted to make the transfer happen. "

Besides Fonseca, Smalling also spoke with Aleksander Kolarov and Edin Dzeko before deciding to join Rome. Kolarov and Dzeko have known Smalling because they both have played in the Premier League for several years.
