Only 24 days, Skrtel left Atalanta
Bergamo - Martin Skrtel's trip with Atalanta is just the age of corn. Not a month, Skrtel and Atalanta separated.
Skrtel was recruited by Atalanta for free on August 9. The former Liverpool defender has been added to strengthen his team at the back because Atalanta will appear in the Champions League.
But Skrtel did not last long at Atalanta. Only 24 days after its official membership, Skrtel ended its contract with Atalanta without playing a single match.
"Atalanta has announced that the contract with Martin Skrtel has been terminated by mutual agreement," the Atalanta statement said on Monday (2/2/2019), quoted by Reuters.
However, Skrtel is not free to transfer for long. The 34-year-old defender joins Istanbul Basaksehir of Turkey.
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said Skrtel had difficulty adapting to his team's tactics.
"He said that at his age, he had problems playing the three-back system, which was understandable," Gasperini said.
"It's difficult for him to adapt to our style of play, that's understandable," he said.
Started by Skrtel, Atalanta brought in another defender. They recruited Simon Kjaer from Sevilla on loan for one season.
