World champions France host Albania in their fifth match in the EURO 2020 Group H Qualifiers, Sunday (09/08/2019). France won 4-1.
France won through a pair of Coman goals (8 ', 68') and one goal each by Olivier Giroud (27 ') and substitute Jonathan Ikone (85'). Albania scored one consolation goal through a Sokol Cikalleshi penalty (90 ').
France currently leads Group H with 12 points from five matches. France is superior on goal difference over Turkey and Iceland. Meanwhile, Albania occupy the fourth position with six points from five matches.
The game has been running for eight minutes, France is winning 1-0. This opening goal was scored by Coman from a fantastic breakthrough pass from central defender Raphael Varane who broke into the Albanian crowd. Coman takes the ball and hits it at the near post.
Entering the first half hour, France doubled their lead. Antoine Griezmann passes from the right side to Lucas Hernandez in the left sector, then Hernadez continues with a low crossing into the box, and Giroud finishes it.
Giroud has scored 36 goals in 92 appearances for France. There are only two players who have scored more goals for Les Bleus than Giroud, namely Thierry Henry (51) and Michel Platini (41).
Nine minutes before the break, France was awarded a penalty following Mergim Mavraj's offense against Hernandez. However, Griezmann failed to convert it into a goal. The Barcelona striker prefers power over precision, and his shot hits the crossbar.
It was Griezmann's first penalty failure in the French national team. After always succeeding in the previous seven penalty shots, he failed in the 8th penalty.
Griezmann made up for the penalty failure in the second half, designing an assist for France's third goal by Coman. The Bayern Munich winger scored his second goal in this match, and France led 3-0.
Five minutes before normal time runs out, two French substitutes, Jonathan Ikone and Nabil Fekir, show off their abilities. Starting with a one-two pass with Fekir, Ikone finished with a shot into the lower left corner. The 21-year-old Lille striker scored in his debut match for the French senior team.
France's victory was certain. However, the negative side, France was unable to get through this fight without conceding. The Albanian consolation goal was scored by Cikalleshi at the end of the penalty spot, following goalkeeper Hugo Lloris's foul on him.
