Germany Collapses in the Second Round, Loew Disappointed
Appearing dominant and superior first in the first round, Germany was defeated in the hands of the Netherlands. Coach Joachim Loew was very disappointed.
Entertaining the Netherlands at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday (7/9/2019) early morning West Indonesia Time, in the continued European Qualification 2020, Germany is more favored considering they won 3-2 in the first meeting at home to the opponent.
Moreover, Germany was able to excel quickly in the ninth minute thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry. Able to take control of the game, Germany almost doubled the score in the 43rd minute if Marco Reus was not pushed over by Jasper Cillessen.
At the beginning of the second half, Germany could still create opportunities to add goals. Again engrossed in attack, their goal was broken twice in five minutes through a goal by Frenkie de Jong in the 59th minute and Jonathan Tah's suicide in the 66th minute.
Germany then evened the score 2-2 after Toni Kroos scored a penalty in the 73rd minute. Germany has hopes of winning because they had threatened the Dutch goalkeeper.
But, Germany finally had to surrender with a score of 2-4. after the Netherlands scored two goals in the final ten minutes of the game through Donvel Malen and Gini Wijnaldum.
This is the third time Germany have conceded four or more goals in the qualifying matches followed so far. Naturally, if Loew was so sad to see his team performance.
"I am very disappointed. We are playing at our best," Loew told RTL.
"Even though we were 1-0 up, we never felt we could control the match. We lost so many balls."
The plan is that we can control the game. In the first half, we were too strict about keeping them everywhere. "
"But, the Netherlands are stronger and we cannot play freely. The Netherlands can advance and we play long balls."
"It's not our style, it's not what we want," Loew said.
Germany are now stuck in second place in Group C with nine points, three points clear of Northern Ireland at the top with perfect points from four matches. They will travel to Belfast next week to face Northern Ireland.
