Champions League, Liverpool is not the number one team in Europe
Despite winning the Champions League last season, Liverpool did not hold the top position at the UEFA club. Real Madrid is still the number one club.
UEFA has published the latest list of the best clubs in the Bleu Continent on Monday (9/9/2019). This ranking is based on the coefficient of success of European leagues and club competitions over the past five years.
2019 UEFA Champions League Champion Liverpool is currently only eighth in the UEFA club rankings. The Red's achievements this season have increased compared to the previous year which was ranked 11th.
Because Liverpool failed to qualify for any European tournament in 2016/17 after finishing eighth in the league one season before. The absence of The Red certainly aggravated the club's classification.
Liverpool's position in the UEFA club rankings is still not defeated by rivals in the Premier League, Manchester City. Citizens became the Premier League club that won the highest ranking on the list, namely the sixth position.
The LaLiga club has been successfully placed at the top of the list. Real Madrid are the team with the best UEFA club ranking, having won the UEFA Champions League four times in the last six years and the last six years.
Atletico Madrid became the second highest club in Barcelona. Bayern Munich, champions of the German league, follow in fourth place behind the Spanish club. There is also a fifth position held by Juventus.
Meanwhile, Chelsea, the reigning Europa League champions, are not in the top 10 of UEFA's top clubs. The Blues must be satisfied sitting in position 14 on the list.
