Two like-minded coaches, Marcus Rashford Is Inappropriate to Be a Striker?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make a big bet by letting Romelu Lukaku leave Manchester United in the transfer market this summer. This decision is risky, but can bear sweet fruit.
Solskjaer continued to be criticized after letting Lukaku and Sanchez go at the same time. But Alan Shearer felt that Solskjaer's decision was based on the potential of Marcus Rashford.
A few months towards the end of last season, it is often thought that Rashford is MU's main striker. Now, Solskjaer plays Rasfhord more often on the left and sends Anthony Martial as number 9 striker.
This change in Rashford's role proves Solskjaer's courage
More comfortable on the left
Besides MU, Rashford will also play on the left when defending the English national team. In other words, Gareth Southgate shares Solskjaer's views on Rashford's potential.
"Gareth Southgate's assessment that Marcus Rashford is not the number 9 striker is correct - even this season, when Romelu Lukaku left, Solskjaer chose to play Anthony Martial in the middle," Sharer told The Sun.
"I think Marcus is more confident playing on the left side, where he does not turn his back on the opponent's goal too often."
Rashford's choice
Still, Shearer also wanted to hear Rashford's voice directly. So far, he has performed very well on the left wing, but Rashford has grown as an attacker.
"You don't need to doubt his extraordinary talent, but I don't think he's a natural attacker, sometimes we forget he's 21 and he still has a lot of time," he said. Shearer
"Rashford didn't tell us directly where he would prefer to play and I never talked to him directly about it," he concluded.
