Giroud Won't Continue to Be a Upholstery at Chelsea
Olivier Giroud currently has to settle for just being a reserve player at Chelsea. However, the French striker was determined to win the first place on the Blues' front line.
The World Cup champion had only started once in four Premier League matches. Tammy Abraham is currently Chelsea's main striker.
Abraham scored a brace against Norwich City and Sheffield United. This means that Frank Lampard will most likely continue to trust the player on the front lines.
Giroud stated last season that he wanted more playing time before signing a new contract. However, that does not seem to have happened yet.
The former Arsenal player has only played 101 minutes in the Premier League so far and has not scored in the league. Nevertheless, Giroud wants to get a chance to play regularly.
When asked by Le Figaro whether Abraham would keep him on the bench, Giroud replied: "Obviously not! I have many goals in my head.
"I'm here to help a new generation, but beware, the time of retirement hasn't arrived.
"I'm still hungry and have a lot of ambition. I don't want to be the number 2 striker at Chelsea.
"Just because I'm here as the oldest brother to a young player, that doesn't mean I have to keep pulling aside."
Giroud has spent the past seven years in the Premier League. However, the French striker claimed to be interested in moving to MLS.
"MLS, for my family, my children who speak English, that would be interesting," Giroud told RMC Sports.
"Will it happen in one year? Or the next two years? I don't know when, but of course after that I will open myself to the final challenge."
Chelsea currently occupy 11th place in the Premier League standings. They collected five points from four matches.
They will visit Wolves headquarters in the Premier League continued on September 14 after the international break.
