Djokovic-Williams, the 2013 US Open's Top Winner
World number one male and female tennis player Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were confirmed as the top seed at the 2013 US Open on Tuesday (8/20) local time.Rafael Nadal, who returned to world number two after winning Masters in Montreal and Cincinnati, is the second seed. While Britain's Andy Murray is the third seed.
Roger Federer, a five-time US Open champion, dropped to seventh seed, his lowest seeded position at Flushing Meadows since 2002.
Djokovic has reached the semifinals at least in the last six years. The last time he became the top seed was in 2011, where he managed to bring home the crown champion.
While Williams, the 16 times 16th Grand Slam champion, is the defending champion at the US Open and French Open.
He beat Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in last year's final in New York, but Azarenka defeated Williams in the final of the WTA Cincinnati last week.
Williams's position as top seed was followed by Azarenka, former 2006 US Open champion and 2013 French Open runner-up Maria Sharapova, Agnieszka Radwanska and Sara Errani.
Two-time champion Venus Williams, who currently occupies 60th place in the world, is a non-seed in the tournament which starts on Monday (8/26).
