Courtois still lacks clean sheets, hoping Real Madrid win 6-0

Thibaut Courtois is still trying to prove his quality as Real Madrid's main goalkeeper. Lately, Courtois played his part in the 3-2 victory over Levante on Saturday (9/14/2019) at night.

The win was important for Los Blancos, who had drawn in both previous matches. By collecting 8 points, Madrid is ranked second in the 2019/20 League standings.

Unfortunately, Courtois again failed to save a blank sheet. Hopes that Courtois' goals remained pure while Madrid led 3-0 in the first round, but poor performance in the second half forced them to pay dearly.

To note, this is a long time since the last time Courtois kept a blank sheet of paper in La Liga.

Courtois avoid clean sheets

According to Transfermarkt, Courtois last recorded a clean sheet in the defeat of Deportivo Alaves by Madrid on 3 February 2019 in the 2018/29 League. With the condition that he played the full 90 minutes.

This season, after four matches in 2019/20 La Liga, Courtois has still not been eliminated after conceding 7 goals.

"We thought of blank sheets in the first round," Courtois told Marca.

"Sometimes we have to continue the match [in the second round] in the same way, but we don't do it after the break."

"The score went up to 3-1 and then 3-2 and we know we can't lose any more points and in the end I can save the rescue," he said.

Must win big

One reason why Courtois failed to shutout was the contrast between Madrid's appearance in the first and second round. They looked dominant with three goals in the first half, then played poorly and conceded two goals in the second half.

"If we continue to play like in the first half, with all the respect we have, we can win 5-0 or 6-0," Courtois continued.

"We played our best 45 minutes this year, but football like that, Levante changed his style and our operands lacked precision," he said.
