8 Real Madrid Mistakes in the Summer Transfer Market

Real Madrid are considered to have failed to maximize the 2019 summer transfer window. At least eight mistakes were made by Madrid.

Los Blancos are trying to get up from the disaster season in 2018/19 after the no-title champion. There are five new players who are hooked, namely Eder Militao (center back), Ferland Mendy (left back), Rodrygo (winger), Luka Jovic (center forward), and Eden Hazard (winger).

Even so, Madrid obtained less convincing results in the first three league matches. After opening with a 3-1 win at Celta Vigo, El Real only won a draw against Real Valladolid 1-1, then balanced 2-2 with host Villarreal.

Not a few who doubted Madrid could compete in the race for the title this season. According to Marca, Madrid made eight mistakes.

1. There is no revolution

Madrid was urged to make an overhaul ahead of the 2019/2020 season. Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane did want it, but it didn't happen. Madrid only recruited one star, and the squad did not develop.

2. Excessive expenditure

Madrid is investing heavily this summer. However, as many as 305 million euros have been spent to bring in players who are mostly not elite players.

3. Selling Players in the Village

Zidane previously had Marcos Llorente, Sergio Reguilon, Mario Hermoso, Martin Odegaard, and Pablo Sarabia. However, they had all left, permanently or on loan at a low price

4. Madrid did not recruit Zidane's main target

Zidane stressed that Paul Pogba must be recruited this summer. The France coach really wants to make Pogba the center of his team's game, but the player remains at Manchester United. After failing to issue Pogba, Madrid also did not bring an alternative.

5. Madrid does not sell James Rodriguez and Bale

Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez are not the players in Zidane's plans for the 2019/20 season. However, both of them still survive at the Santiago Bernabeu even though the entrenador does not want it. Now, Zidane must be able to take advantage of both, at least Bale has succeeded after successfully packaging two goals and one assist in three appearances.

6. Unequal squad

In the absence of a central midfielder who arrived, Madrid became less balanced after only having four competing players: Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Fede Valverde.

7. Without Casemiro coatings

The absence of new players in his position makes Casemiro must work hard and avoid injury throughout the season. Without Llorente, Casemiro's fitness and appearance are now more important than ever.

8. Without a top center back

Duet Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane helped Madrid achieve great success, especially in the last five years. However, no other player can create competition in the heart of the defense other than Eder Militao. Even though Madrid might need more center back options.
