Sergio Ramos Samai Iker Casillas record in the Spanish national team
Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos set an extraordinary record in equating 167 matches with the Spanish national team previously held by Iker Casillas.
Ramos, who acted as captain, started when Spain hosted the Faroe Islands to continue the EURO 2020 qualification at El Molinon, Gijon, Monday (9/9/2019) early this morning.
In this match, Spain won 4-0 thanks to two goals from Rodrigo Moreno and Paco Alcacer. Furia Roja is even stronger at the top of Group F.
Ramos made his debut in Spanish troops on March 26, 2005, when Spain faced China in a friendly match.
Ramos was 18 years old and 361 days, making him the youngest rookie in the Spanish army for more than half a century.
After reaching 100 caps in 2013, Opta said the 33-year-old defender has 167 choices, consistent with the exploits of Casillas.
Exploitation of Sergio Ramos
Ramos is an important part of every Spanish success, from the 2008 EURO title at the 2010 FIFA World Cup to EURO 2012.
Previously, Ramos had also scored his 21st goal with the Spanish team, which made him close to a record as international top scorer defender.
Now, Ramos is looking for records with the national team at the European level held by Gianluigi Buffon. Ramos only needs nine matches to attack Buffon.
