Laporte injury, Guardiola: the city cannot buy a new defender

Manchester - Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola must turn around after an Aymeric Laporte injury. Guardiola revealed that City could not afford to buy a new center.

Laporte injured his knee when City beat Brighton 4-0 in the Premier League match last weekend. The French footballer was immediately taken to the hospital and could not be absent for a moment.

Laporte's wounds make the central stock smaller because he only has John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi. Because City did not buy a replacement for Vincent Kompany, who left last season.

The Manchester Blue has actually tried to tie Harry Maguire from Leicester City. City could not compete with Manchester United's offer, Maguire finally dropped the anchor at Old Trafford.

Guardiola said the city did not have the financial means to connect the new center. As such, Guardiola might install veteran midfielder Fernandinho as the second available player.

"We can't buy like our opponents," Guardiola told ESPNFC. "The club has worked very well in all departments and sometimes we are not as competent as the other teams, right."

"We have paid a lot of players, that is why we have a solid team of good quality but we cannot, the club told me, you have a limit, you cannot move forward."

"Maybe in the future, not now. I said OK, you can't buy a new defender, we won't do it, so we will use what we have," said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.
