Britain's fundamental mistakes are disturbing
England beat Kosovo, but conceded three goals. England coach Gareth Southgate acknowledged that his team's defense needed a lot of improvement.
England won 5-3 at home against Kosovo at St Mary's Stadium, Wednesday 11/09/2019, on the eve of qualifying for the 2020 European Cup. Three Lions conceded in the first minute.
Michael Keane's eating problems were cut by Vedat Muriqi and offered Valon Berisha to complete the goal. After that, England went crazy by scoring five goals.
Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, a Mergim Vojvoda goal and two Jadon Sancho goals allowed England to regain the lead. But after that, Harry Maguire and the others lost two goals.
Errors in anticipation and placement led to Berisha's second goal. While Maguire's offense against Muriqi in box 16 resulted in a successful penalty by the Kosovo striker.
England can be dominant: record 58% possession and 10 shots on target, but defense needs to be improved. Kosovo only needs three kicks to reach three goals thanks to its fragile back line.
"I think it is something that we should pay attention to briefly, because it is clearly a worrying mistake," Southgate was quoted as saying by the BBC.
"Whether it's the intensity of the match or the pressure, I don't know, we have to think about this mistake, but it's really a fundamental mistake, in fact, you have to learn."
"What I mean in general, as a team, is that they are recovering from these mistakes, even if there is nothing worse than being left behind to make their team feel bad, comfortable," he added.
