Verratti: stop the match to fight racism

Marco Verratti is concerned about racism Romelu Lukaku, Inter Milan striker. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder believes that dismissal is a means.

Lukaku faced racial attacks when Inter traveled to Cagliari headquarters on Monday (2/9/2019). The Belgium international was shouted in a monkey voice by Cagliari supporters, who wanted to execute a penalty that won their team.

Cagliari himself condemned the harassment while Lukaku called on soccer federations around the world to take serious action. He also hopes that social media platforms work better to prevent racist comments.

Last month, other players such as Paul Pogba (Manchester United) and Tammy Abraham (Chelsea) also fell victim to racism. Verratti believes that stopping the match could be a solution to racism in stadium cases.

"You have to stop the match because otherwise we won't go anywhere, I know this is a big step, but we have to do it, if 4 to 5 fools will still be there," he told Rai Sport.

"Lukaku's request is right, it depends on us, the players, to show that we can be an example for everyone, we have a big influence, if it starts with us, that is a good thing," he added.
