Therefore, Chiellini had to undergo surgery in Innsbruck, Austria as part of the injury recovery process, a successful operation was carried out on Tuesday (03/09/2019) local time.
For the break, Chiellini is expected to miss six months or just be able to play full again in March 2020.

"This afternoon, Giorgio Chiellinii has just undergone surgery to correct a network of ligaments in his right knee," the club's official statement said.

"The operation was successful with Professor Christian Fink from the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck and accompanied by Juventus club doctor Dr. Tzouroudis. The recovery time is estimated at six months."

For a while the position of team captain will be carried by Leonardo Bonucci and Chiellini's place in the team will be replaced by Matthijs de Ligt. De Ligt made his debut in the 4-3 win over Napoli yesterday, but was criticized for his poor performance.
