Barcelona Make Sure Will Not Chase Neymar in January Later
Barcelona through the president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, insisted he would not pursue the signature of PSG star Neymar in the January transfer window.
Neymar has indeed become one of the main talks at the transfer window this summer. The Brazilian bomber reportedly wanted to leave PSG and fought over Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
After a negotiation process of nearly two months, the Neymar transfer saga ended anticlimax because PSG is still insisted unwilling to release the 27-year bomber.
Bartomeu revealed that it had tried hard to repatriate Neymar. But Bartomeu denied rumors that said it was offering Ivan Rakitic to Ousmane Dembele to PSG.
"Neymar could not join Barca in January, and the Barca dressing room did not specify anything. We did everything possible to recruit Neymar," Bartomeu told Barca TV.
"We don't offer certain players as exchanges. We are not talking about player exchanges but all the names are given by PSG," he added.
"Without an exchange of players, the offer we offer is to borrow Neymar for one year with a permanent purchase option at the end of the season," he said.
Bartomeu stated that Neymar himself told PSG that he only wanted to return to Barcelona even though it was also interested in Real Madrid and Juventus.
Bartomeu also said his club really wanted Neymar to return to Camp Nou. But not because of the captain's request, Lionel Messi as is widely reported.
"Messi didn't ask me to hook Neymar. It was an opportunity in the transfer market because he was a great player, and the directors agreed to see what he could do to recruit him again," Bartomeu said.
