Sterling is bound by Messi, Busquet: don't overdo it, Ah!

Sterling is bound by Messi, Busquet: don't overdo it, Ah!

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets seems unable to accept that Raheem Sterling is compared to his teammate, Lionel Messi. He felt that the Manchester City star could not be generalized with Messi.

Sterling's performance chart shows improvement over the last two seasons with Manchester City. England national team players show no signs of decline this season.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher did not hesitate to congratulate him. Without conditions, he thinks that Sterling will fill the empty space if Messi and his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, decide to hang their shoes.

"His ambition, with Kylian Mbappe, must be able to fill the remaining gaps after Ronaldo and Messi retire," Carragher told the Telegraph some time ago.

Busquets do not accept

It is undeniable, Messi and Ronaldo deserve to be called the best players in the football world today. Both have never missed a trophy with their respective clubs in recent years.

Maybe that's also what Busquets can't accept when we hear that Sterling is equated with Messi. According to the 31-year-old midfielder, associating Sterling with Messi was too much.

"Look, Sterling is a player with great profile and potential, but comparing himself to Leo Messi seems to be very excessive and not very positive for players," he said.

"The truth is that every player plays a very important role for his club, he is a good player and can have a big influence on the English national team," he continued.

Enchanting nickname

Sterling's record with Manchester City so far has been fantastic. Over the past season, he has scored 25 goals and 18 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions.

There was a slight increase during the 2017/18 season, with Sterling recording 23 goals and 17 assists in 46 appearances. This performance resulted in the Premier League title being produced in two consecutive seasons.

Even so, many people still consider the comparison between Sterling and Messi too early. Even coach Josep Guardiola thought the same thing.

"I am very happy with him and how to play here and the national team, but I hope he does not read or hear things like that, nothing can compare to Cristiano or Messi," Guardiola said last week.
