Are relations between Barcelona and Lionel Messi starting to crack?

After more than ten years of intimacy, relations between Lionel Messi and Barcelona began to break up. One of the triggers is an indication that Barcelona is not serious about hunting Neymar.

Neymar is indeed a rather complicated problem for Barcelona in the 2019 transfer market last summer. Barcelona's main players like Gerard Pique, Luis Suarez and Messi want the club to buy Neymar.

Barcelona's confirmation of the relationship with Lionel Messi


Lionel Messi has just done an interview with Spanish sports media. In one of his remarks, Messi admitted that he really wanted Barcelona to buy Neymar from PSG.

However, Barcelona felt that there was nothing out of the ordinary in the interview. Barcelona spokesman Josep Vives said Messi had expressed his opinion only during the interview session.

"This is a very normal interview, he has done it very openly and we are satisfied with the way he expresses himself," Josep Vives told Marca.

In addition, Josep Vives said rumors about the breakup between Barcelona and Lionel Messi were wrong. Barcelona accepted Messi's criticism of Neymar's transfer with a positive attitude.

"There is no fracture between Messi and the club and he has made some interesting evaluations," said Josep Vives.


Barcelona not serious for Neymar?

Still in an interview with Sport, Lionel Messi also questioned the seriousness of Barcelona buying Neymar at PSG. Messi said he did not know whether Barcelona had done everything or not during the transfer.

"Messi, related to the Neymar case, said he was not sure if we did something [to restore Neymar] because he was not yet involved in the negotiations."

"The fact is, the club is doing its best, as explained by President [Josep Maria Bartomeu], and we finally failed to sign it," said Josep Vives.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi's contract and Barcelona are now entering a critical phase. Although it was completed in June 2021, Messi has the right to leave Barcelona for free with a free transfer at the end of this season 2019/2020.
