Because of Corona, the Dubai 2020 Championship Postponed
Dubai International Championships The Badminton 2020, which is scheduled to take place on March 31-April 5 in Dubai, has to be postponed to an indefinite period of time.
The policy was taken due to fears that the coronavirus is starting to spread in various countries in Asia and Europe. The delay is a follow-up to the local government after the discovery of two positive cases of the corona during the UAE Tour 2020 cycling event in February. The local authority then instructed all UAE sports organizations to temporarily suspend all sports activities and competitions for the next two months.
"Our government has decided to close schools and universities in the UAE for four weeks starting from Sunday, March 8, 2020, as a precautionary measure for the transmission of the coronavirus," said the organizing committee's statement as reported by the BWF, Friday (6/3/2020).
"Many international sporting events, forums, conferences, and exhibitions must also be canceled or postponed for similar reasons," he continued. The organizing committee said, the implementation of the Dubai Badminton 2020 which is one of the 2020 Paralympic qualifying events will be announced until the next notification.
"We will announce the whole badminton tournament later. We understand how important this competition is for athletes who are preparing themselves for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. But we believe that safety together is more important," he said. Besides Dubai Badminton, several other championships have to be postponed or canceled, including BTY Junior International Series 2020 (Bangkok 21-26 April), Mongolia Junior International Series 2020 (Ulaanbaatar 19-24 May), and Mongolia International Challenge 2020 (Ulaanbaatar 26 -31 May).
