Harry Maguire praised Jamie Vardy
Harry Maguire performed quite well for Manchester United, who beat Leicester City 1-0 in the fifth week of the 2019/20 Premier League on Saturday (9/14/2019), tonight. He helped the MU defense appear stronger.
Despite winning, the game tested the defense of the Red Devils almost throughout the fight. After quickly winning Marcus Rashford's goal in the 8th minute, Manchester United were forced to defend against the Leicester attack.
For Maguire, this fight was special because it was against his former club. He certainly understood very well how Leicester could threaten with their attacks, especially Jamie Vardy.
Maguire himself admitted that he had difficulty overcoming Vardy's threat.
Vardy's threat
Maguire has played with Vardy for two years. Of course, he often faces Vardy during training sessions and is well aware of the threat of the 32-year-old striker.
"It's hard to play Jamie [Vardy], I have played with him for two years and he is a prominent player who can terrorize his opponent's defenses when he hits his best game," he said. Maguire on Goal International.
Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also admitted that Maguire had to fight hard against Vardy. A blank sheet of MU proves that Maguire did a good job.
"When you play against an attacker like Jamie Vardy, you have to stay focused because if you think time is running out, he will be behind you, I think Harry [Maguire] is playing well," Solskjaer said.
Important victory
Besides that, Maguire also talked about winning. He knew that the victory was very important for Manchester United, who have not managed to get maximum results in the last three matches.
"We know how important this victory is, especially after the international break," Maguire continued.
"We need to build a solid base and we want to continue to keep a blank sheet, especially at Old Trafford, and we will always score lots of goals with the talent we have," he said.
