Ladies and gentlemen, already 2019 is still racist
Romelu Lukaku was hit by a racial attack when Inter Milan defeated Cagliari. The Belgian striker made a statement on social media.
When Inter defeated Cagliari 2-1 in the second week of the 2019/2020 Italian League at the Sardegna Arena on Monday (2/9/2019) early morning hrs, Lukaku was hit by a racial attack. That happened when the new Nerazzurri player was about to kick the penalty.
In a video that is widely circulated on social media, Lukaku is seen getting racial abuse from Cagliari supporters. However, the 26-year-old player was undisturbed and could still execute the penalty well.
The racial attack was then commented on by Lukaku. The player who was bought by Inter from Manchester United made a striking statement for racists.
"Many players in the last few months have suffered racial attacks. I also did yesterday. Football is a game that should be enjoyed together and we should not accept any form of discrimination that would embarrass this game," Lukaku wrote on Instagram.
"I hope football federations around the world react strongly to all cases of discrimination."
"Social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook ...) should work better like clubs because every day you will at least see racist comments for people with color."
"We have said this for years and there has been no response. Ladies and gentlemen, this is 2019. Instead of going forward, we have instead backed out and I think as players we need to unite and make statements about this problem to keep this game clean and pleasing to everyone, "Lukaku stated.
In the past month, racial attacks have also been received by English players. MU midfielder Paul Pogba and Chelsea young striker Tammy Abraham were also attacked with derogatory remarks on social media.
