Arenal disease every year: it never makes sense

Per Mertesacker makes an interesting statement. The former Arsenal defender admitted that inconsistency was the main illness that prevented his team from winning the Premier League.

In the 2000s, Arsenal were known as one of the great British giants. Under the direction of Arsene Wenger, the Gunners have always been serious contenders for the title, where the pinnacle of their achievement won the Invincibles title in 2004.

But since 2004 until now, Arsenal have never won an EPL title. Their best performance was to become a finalist of the 2015/2016 season by winning several FA Cup trophies.

Mertesacker believes that Arsenal's main problem over the past 15 years has been consistency. "When we lose a match, we usually lose consecutive losses," Mertesacker said in his autobiography entitled "Per Mertesacker: A German with Good Virtues".

Never coherent

Mertesacker clearly stated that the regularity of his team's play was so bad that he always failed to become an EPL Champion in the last 15 years.

"We can show our great performance in six FA Cup matches, but doing the same thing in 38 matches in 10 months is completely different."

"We lack consistency compared to other big clubs, you cannot win the league by swallowing eight defeats in one season."

Trust the team

Mertesacker also said that one of the reasons for Arsenal's difficulty was not being a champion because his players did not take advantage of the trust given by his coach, Arsene Wenger.

"Arsene Wenger is a typical manager who believes in the quality of his team and has a calm and endless patience to trust his team."

"He never panicked when his team suffered a series of defeats, he never doubted the ability of his team and I have never met another manager who was confident in his team's abilities." he stressed.

Always repeated

This is the second season that Arsenal have not yet succeeded Arsene Wenger.

But so far, inconsistency is still visible in the Gunners, who have won just two of their first four matches at the EPL this season.
